My name is Eiji Kato and I am honored to have been appointed as the Director of the Kaohsiung Office of the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association.
Taiwan is an important partner and friend of Japan. This is my first time working here and I feel privileged to have this opportunity. I am committed to performing my duties as Director of the Kaohsiung Office to the best of my ability. Moreover, I plan to endeavor and become extremely familiar with each and every aspect related to Kaohsiung and Taiwan. I sincerely look forward to working with you all in the near future.
The jurisdiction of the Kaohsiung Office covers two special municipalities—Kaohsiung City and Tainan City in southern Taiwan—as well as five counties and one other city (Pingtung County, Chiayi County, Yunlin County, Taitung County, Penghu County, and Chiayi City). Our role is to strengthen the ties between Japan and southern Taiwan in various fields, including culture and the economy.
Currently, there are over 3,000 long-term Japanese residents in southern Taiwan, and in recent years, many Japanese have visited southern Taiwan. Providing support and assistance to Japanese people in Taiwan to aid them during their stay here is a core pillar of our business. We will continue to actively provide information and consular services as required.
Many Japanese-affiliated companies have been established and are now operating in southern Taiwan. There is also an active exchange program at the local government level between Japan and southern Taiwan. Assisting and facilitating these economic and local government exchanges is a critical role for this organization. We endeavor to provide the requisite levels of support and follow-up to enable the smooth operation of Japanese companies in this country and to facilitate the deepening exchanges between Japan and southern Taiwan at the local government level.
All our efforts and resources are focused on fulfilling these tasks and we are grateful for your continuing support and cooperation. If you have any inquiries or requests with respect to our office, please feel free to contact us anytime.
