Workshop on Trade Secrets Protection and Digital Piracy Prevention

承認:エディタ

On October 15, 2020, Deputy Representative Akira Yokochi delivered an address at the opening ceremony of GCTF’s virtual seminar themed “Workshop on Trade Secrets Protection and Digital Piracy Prevention.”

The fifth GCTF virtual seminar this year covered the topic of trade secrets and copyrights. The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to an opportunity for companies to reconsider their approach to the information that they hold and to their management of digital information. Experts from a variety of fields gathered together for two days on October 15–16 to share and discuss their views.

Deputy Representative Yokochi’s address

Distinguished guests,

On behalf of the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association, we would like to extend a warm welcome to you. We are delighted to co-host today’s GCTF virtual workshop together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, the American Institute in Taiwan, and Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In a world facing rapid digitalization, how to protect and manage information is a huge challenge for every country. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has been causing severe damage to governments and enterprises all over the world. Under these circumstances, it is essential to deal with those who try to take advantage of the crisis to steal information. Therefore, I think “Trade Secret Protection and Digital Piracy Prevention” is a very timely topic to discuss at this webinar.

Protecting trade secrets and preventing digital piracy are essential elements in ensuring free and fair social activities based on the establishment of a free, democratic and transparent system. Japan, Taiwan, and the United States are important partners sharing common values such as freedom, democracy and human rights; as well as advanced digital technology and legal system on trade secret protection. We are very pleased to have an opportunity to widely share our expertise and experience through this workshop and do expect this valuable opportunity to be conducive to further strengthening our ties and continuing to advance together.

This is the fifth GCTF virtual workshop of this year. It is our great pleasure to have such a large turnout despite the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to fully support this meaningful effort. Last but not least, we would like to appreciate everyone for their efforts and commitments in organizing today's GCTF virtual workshop. Thank you for your attention.
